Easy Installation – Step-by-step Guide

For trees with large root balls (over 80 cm) or limited space:

  1. Dig a hole at least 70 cm deep. If the root ball is higher, the hole should be the depth of the root ball + 10 cm.
  2. Determine the size of the hole, which must be at least the diameter of the root ball + 60 cm in a square form.
  3. Place stone wool batts in a square around the root ball. Cut to size if necessary.
  4. With limited space: Place batts where there is space. If there is not enough space all around, place batts where there is space.
  5. Fill growth soil on the inside, while filling the outside with sand or soil, but only up to the level where the root ball should sit. (The top of the root ball should be about 10 cm below the soil surface).
  6. Place the tree in the center and fill up with growth soil inside the batts and sand/soil outside simultaneously.
  7. Compact the soil thoroughly to ensure stability.
  8. Secure the tree with 2-3 stakes placed on the inside of the stone wool batts.
  9. In very clayey soil: A gravel base under the batts is recommended.
  10. Finish by adding between 100-120 liters of water per stone wool batt.
  11. Water 5-7 times over the first two years. It is important to use surface watering with about 75 liters per stone wool batt each time.

For trees that are struggling or have root damage:

  1. Dig a hole 70 cm deep and about 25-30 cm wide between the large roots or in damaged areas.
  2. In case of stress: Place stone wool slabs in a cross pattern away from the tree without getting too close to the trunk.
  3. In case of root damage: Place the slabs at the ends of damaged roots.
  4. Cut damaged roots close at the stone wool placement.
  5. Lower the stone wool and cover the hole with existing soil or replace poor soil.
  6. Finish by adding between 100-120 liters of water per stone wool batt.
  7. Water 5-7 times over the first two years. It is important to use surface watering with about 75 liters per stone wool batt each time.

For beds:

  1. Dig a hole approximately 40 cm deep, depending on the size of the root ball.
  2. Place stone wool batts flat at the bottom of the hole.
  3. For root balls: Set the plants on the batts and fill up with growth soil to the terrain level.
  4. For bare root plants: Fill first with growth soil to the terrain level and then plant the plants in the soil.
  5. Finish by adding between 100-120 liters of water per stone wool batt.
  6. Water 5-7 times over the first two years. It is important to use surface watering with about 75 liters per stone wool batt each time.

Tip: Stone wool batts can be used as an effective solution to improve growth conditions in challenging soil conditions.
