Easy installation – step-by-step guide

For trees with a large root ball (over 80 cm) or limited space:

  1. Dig a hole at least 70 cm deep. If the root ball is higher, the hole should be the depth of the root ball + 10 cm.
  2. Determine the size of the hole, which should be at least the diameter of the root ball + 60 cm in a square shape.
  3. Place stone wool mats in a square around the root ball. Cut to size if necessary.
  4. With limited space: Place mats where there is space. If there is not space all the way around, place mats where there is space.
  5. Fill growth soil on the inside while also filling the outside with sand or soil, but only up to the level where the root ball should stand. (The top of the root ball should be about 10 cm below the soil surface).
  6. Place the tree in the center and fill with growth soil inside the mats and sand/soil on the outside at the same time.
  7. Firm the soil thoroughly to ensure stability.
  8. Secure the tree with 2-3 stakes, placed on the inside of the stone wool mats.
  9. In very clayey soil: A crushed stone construction under the mats is recommended.
  10. Finish by adding between 100-120 liters of water per stone wool mat.
  11. Water 5–7 times over the first two years. It is important to use surface watering with about 75 liters per stone wool mat per time.

For trees that are struggling or have root damage:

  1. Dig a hole 70 cm deep and about 25-30 cm wide between the large roots or at damaged areas.
  2. In case of struggling: Place stone wool plates in a cross from the tree without getting too close to the trunk.
  3. In case of root damage: Place the plates at the ends of damaged roots.
  4. Trim damaged roots closely near the stone wool placement.
  5. Lower the stone wool and cover the hole with existing soil or replace bad soil.
  6. Finish by adding between 100-120 liters of water per stone wool mat.
  7. Water 5–7 times over the first two years. It is important to use surface watering with about 75 liters per stone wool mat per time.

For beds:

  1. Dig a hole about 40 cm deep, depending on the size of the root ball.
  2. Place stone wool mats flat at the bottom of the hole.
  3. With root ball: Set the plants on the mats and fill up with growth soil to terrain level.
  4. With bare root plants: First fill up with growth soil to terrain level, then plant the plants in the soil.
  5. Finish by adding between 100-120 liters of water per stone wool mat.
  6. Water 5–7 times over the first two years. It is important to use surface watering with about 75 liters per stone wool mat per time.

Tip: Stone wool mats can be used as an effective solution to improve growth conditions in demanding soil conditions.
