Køge: Focus on sustainability, nature and water
Køge Nord is a completely new residential area where the municipality has focused on sustainability, nature, and water from the start. One of the major access roads will be lined with about 50 large trees of various species, and BOXofGREEN has been involved in the planning and contributed with advice along the way.
The desire is for a beautiful green entrance to the area for the enjoyment of future residents. However, since the conditions consist of thick clay soil, something extra is required here for the trees to establish themselves properly from the beginning. At the same time, the municipality has set quality requirements that water usage, vehicle usage, and working time should be minimized, and instead use natural rainfall for watering. And this is where BOXofGREEN fits perfectly, with its ability to collect and retain rainwater. Maintenance is reduced to a minimum, and the trees take care of absorbing the right amount of oxygen and water from the stone wool box.
Uldum: Healthy bushes in the park
In autumn 2023, we planted two amelanchier bushes in Uldum in BOXofGREEN boxes, close to a row of similar, but traditionally planted bushes.
The difference compared to the traditionally planted bushes meets all expectations: The bushes in the BOXofGREEN planting boxes are here a year later, with visibly stronger shoot growth and robust growth.
Vejle: Help for large trees struggling with poor growing conditions
On the Boulevard in Vejle, there is a long row of linden trees in the median strip. Even though they have been there for many years, they are still fighting to survive, as the terrain causes surface water to drain away quickly. Therefore, they depend on being irrigated every single year to thrive.
Our method for helping the trees simply involves burying four loose BOXofGREEN batts around each of the selected trees. The batts support the tree by capturing and holding rainwater, which both strengthens the root system and significantly reduces the irrigation needs – from many annual waterings to only three waterings in 2024. The batts are placed alongside the large roots, and the burial is done as gently as possible to avoid damaging the root network.
