Køge: Focus on sustainability, nature and water
Køge Nord is a completely new residential area, where the municipality has focused on sustainability, nature and water from the very beginning. One of the main access roads will be flanked by approximately 50 large trees of various species, and BOXofGREEN has been involved in the planning and has contributed with advice along the way.
The desire is for a beautiful green entrance to the area for the enjoyment of the future residents. However, as the conditions are thick clay soil, some extra measures are required to ensure that the trees establish themselves properly from the start. At the same time, the municipality has set a quality requirement to save on water usage, transport and working hours, instead using natural rainfall for irrigation. And here BOXofGREEN fits perfectly in, with its ability to collect and retain rainwater. Maintenance is reduced to a minimum, and the trees take care of absorbing the right amount of oxygen and water from the stone wool box.
Uldum: Healthy bushes in the park
In autumn 2023, we planted two amelanchier bushes in Uldum in BOXofGREEN boxes, close to a row of similar, but traditionally planted bushes.
The difference compared to the traditionally planted bushes meets all expectations: The bushes in the BOXofGREEN planting boxes are here a year later, with visibly stronger shoot extensions and vigorous growth.
Vejle: Help for large trees struggling with poor growth conditions
On the Boulevard in Vejle, there is a long row of linden trees in the median strip. Although they have been there for many years, they still struggle to survive as the terrain causes the surface water to drain away quickly. Therefore, they rely on being irrigated every single year to thrive.
Our method for helping the trees simply involves burying four loose BOXofGREEN batts around each of the selected trees. The batts support the tree by absorbing and retaining rainwater, which both strengthens the root system and significantly reduces the irrigation needs – from many annual waterings to only three waterings in 2024. The batts are placed along the large roots, and the burial is done as gently as possible to avoid damaging the root network.
